HYDERABAD: With an intention to provide quality education to girl students and others in the rural areas, the State Government will start 355 model schools in the educationally backward mandals from the coming academic year.
To be established as a joint venture of Central Government and State Government the schools will be open to students from 5 {+t} {+h} and 12 {+t} {+h} class and the medium of instruction will be English.
These schools will not clash with the existing system and they will function independently. Teachers and non-teaching staff will also be recruited separately while the structures would also come up at separate lands giving it a unique identity.
“An amount of Rs. 3.02 crores has been sanctioned as infrastructure grant while the recurring expenditure every year will be Rs. 75 lakh,” said R. Sathyanarayana, Commissioner, School Education.
The Centre bear 75 p.c. of the funds while the State Government has to contribute the remaining 25 per cent. He said 355 schools have been sanctioned in the first phase by the Central Government, which has also identified the educationally backward mandals based on several parameters.
Staff pattern and admission mode are likely to be on the Kendriya Vidyalaya model and to formulate the guidelines for these schools a meeting has been called on February 16 and 17 in the State. Mr. Sathyanarayana is confident that the process will be on track and schools will take a shape before the commencement of the next academic year. These schools will be different from the Success schools launched by the State Government a few years back with focus on attracting students through English medium of instruction. Success schools will be open to every student across the State while admissions in these model schools will be through a different selection process. They will be run on the lines of A.P. Residential Schools, popular in the 70s and 80s in the State, and that were replicated at the national level as Navodaya Vidyalayas
