The Governemnt of Andhra Pradesh has decided to start a massive employment generation scheme under name of 'Yuva Kiranalu'. The main aim of the program is to provide job opportunities for at least 15 lakh youth in the state. The Government is proposed to bring three existing schemes under one roof and and will be named after 'Yuva Kiranalu'. The schemes to be brought under the scheme are Rajiv Udyogsri, Employment Generation and Marketing Mission and Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). The scheme is likely to spike controversy as they are started by late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and also named after Rajiv Gandhi. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's efforts to carve out his own mark on the Government schemes by naming it as 'Yuva Kiranalu' will be contentious issue.
The Government has also formed a team of public officials to work out formalities and modalities for the implementation of 'Yuva Kiranalu' scheme. The program is also aimed at improving and upgrading skills among unemployed youths to make them employable. The scheme is targeted at providing at least one job in every BPL household.
It is estimated that about 18.7 lakh youths have been trained under the existing three schemes so far. The new scheme is likely to start from August 2011. The scheme will also involve private and corporate sectors to make it more practical. Another big initiative would be opening of 500 vocational training centers in the state for the skill up-gradation and improvement of employability. Unemployed youth who have registered their names with employment exchanges will be preferred under this scheme. It is estimated that there are about 20 lakh candidates registered with employment exchanges in the state.
